Melville’s Mayor is happy there’s a tentative agreement ending the strike by 3,200 CN workers.
Ironically, Walter Streelasky says he heard about the resolution yesterday in Regina at an event celebrating C.N’s 100th anniversary. “And so there we sat with our group, advisory committee on CN safety, and the news came forward that a settlement was reached and we were very pleased to hear that.”
Streelasky says with 550 people employed at the yards in the Rail City, the strike had an impact. “a dampening effect I’d put on our community. Sort of a blanket of cloud on our community. This community, our province does not need this, and we need to resolve these issues. I’m glad that in the time-frame of one week there was resolution.”
“It’s a difficult thing because we get 35-40 trails a day,” he adds. “With that, no movement on the rail line has a negative effect on the community.”
