StatsCan report says Sask. second among the provinces when it comes to homicides in 2018

An alarming number from StatsCan says Saskatchewan’s homicide rate is second among the provinces.

In 2018, Saskatchewan saw 2.93 murders per 100,000 people.

Only Manitoba was higher at 4.07 per 100,000 people.

Alberta was third at 1.88, while P.E.I saw no homicides in 2018.

Saskatchewan’s rate is also somewhat skewed because StatsCan factored in only eight of Saskatoon’s 13 murders, because they only count homicides the year they are reported not when they actually happen.

Homicides also appear to be much more common in northern Saskatchewan at 15.36 per 100,000 compared to 2.52 further south.
