Wexit and farm support among issues raised in Sask legislature

NDP Ryan Meili leveled criticism at Premier Scott Moe Tuesday for delays in denouncing Wexit, a western separatist movement.

Meili says it was embarrassing to see the Premier flirt with the idea of western separatism.

But Scott Moe says he was proud to chair a meeting this week of premiers to discuss a consensus on economic issues.

Moe says he will always stand up for Saskatchewan’s economic interests.

Moe shot back at Meili for not attending a rally in Regina last year in support of the petroleum industry.

Meili also called for improvements to farm support programs to help hard-pressed farmers.

He says improvements are needed to trigger support from federal-provincial programs like agristability and agri-recovery.

Agriculture minister David Marit says crop insurance has seen significant increased coverage under the SaskParty.

Marit says he will be raising the issue of improving other farm support programs at a national meeting later this month.
