TSB prepares to investigate train derailment

The Transportation Safety Board is sending a team of investigators to the site of the CP train derailment near Lanigan.

Their job will be to gather information, and assess the occurrence. The train was carrying crude oil.

Melanie Loessl witnessed the accident. She lives on a rural property near where the train left the tracks. She says there were flames everywhere and plumes of black smoke rising through the air.

CP says no injuries were reported and the cause of the derailment is under investigation.

The Saskatchewan government says one home near the site was evacuated.

That section of Highway 16 remains closed. the Highway Hotline is suggesting drivers avoid the area. An alternate route is available south of Plunkett on Highway 365 toward Watrous, then north along Highway 668 to Guernsey.
