Robert Major can leave prison until his appeal is heard

A man sentenced to over seven years in prison is being released pending his appeal.

In January, Robert Major was found guilty of three counts of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm after a February 2016 accident in which two of Major’s sons and his girlfriend were killed after the truck he was driving slammed into a semi-trailer at a high-rate of speed at the Highway 16-Grid road 3083 intersection near the town of Langham.

An appeal was filed shortly after the verdict which alleged Crown prosecutors did not control their witnesses when they delivered testimony leading to ““inadmissible, prejudicial and hearsay evidence.”

The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal made the decision on Tuesday to release Major until the appeal is heard with the judge saying he doesn’t believe it is in the public’s interest to keep Major in prison.
