Highway 16 is back open and work is continuing to put out a train derailment fire outside of Guernsey.
Public Safety President Marlo Pritchard said about 100 responders from both CP Rail and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency remain on scene to clean up after several rail cars derailed, spilled crude oil and caught fire.
“Clean-up work is underway, some of the damaged rail cars have been removed from the site and plans are in place to transport the remaining cars when safe to do so. The smoke plume has diminished substantially since [Monday].”
Pritchard said the area impacted is believed to be between five and 10 acres.
“The Ministry of Environment continues to monitor air quality and at this time no advisories are in place. Environmental protection officers are monitoring the site and when safe to do so will assess the impact of the incident.”
Guernsey is located about 110 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
