Kindersley deaths believed to be murder-suicide: RCMP

RCMP are revealing more details on Thursday’s emergency situation in Kindersley saying it appears to be a murder-suicide.

At about 10:00am, officers responded to a home after reports of shots being fired at a home on the 1000 block of First Street West.

Corporal Rob King said around 3:00pm, police were able to enter the home where they found the bodies of a man and woman who are said to be husband and wife. “The couple was David Michael Gartner, 66-years-old of Kindersley and the other person was his wife Elsie Gartner, 64-years-old of Kindersley. They were in the process of going through a divorce. At this time we believe the husband shot the wife.”

King added that the person who fled the house to call the police was one of the couple’s daughters.  “The couple had never come to the awareness of the RCMP for any type of domestic violence situation,” King said.

He added that police did find a weapon in the house. “There was one long gun seized at the scene for sure, where there other weapons in the house, I didn’t talk to investigators about that. there was one seized for sure.”

RCMP said the house is still secured as the investigation is ongoing.

Autopsies are scheduled for Friday.
