Sask. NDP wants Public Accounts committee to review Brandt report

The Saskatchewan NDP wants an examination completed on the processes and procedures that approved commercial developments in Regina’s Wascana Park.

This comes after the provincial auditor discovered many instances when the Provincial Capital Commission did not follow proper procedures or provide the right documents to approve the Brandt project.

PCC critic Nicole Sarauer has since submitted a letter to the committee to “convene at the earliest opportunity”.

Sarauer said it should be a non-partisan process, but the auditor’s report is quite clear that processes weren’t followed in this case.

“It’s a pretty straight forward question for the board. The majority of the votes are Sask. Party board members,” explained Sarauer. “It’s something we’ve been pressuring the minister to make a decision on sooner rather than later.”

The Provincial Capital Commission board is looking into the report and will present PCC minister Lori Carr with recommendations on how to move forward with the provincial auditor’s suggestions.

“I think there are a lot of questions that flow out of the findings of the auditor’s report.”

On Thursday afternoon, the government released the following statement.

The Board of the Provincial Capital Commission is conducting a review of the Provincial Auditor’s Report and will present Minister Carr with recommendations on next steps to address the Provincial Auditor’s recommendations.

This review is ongoing, and will be made public. We expect that the Provincial Auditor’s Report will be discussed as a course of regular business by the Public Accounts Committee, as would any report presented by the Provincial Auditor.
