The President and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority is excited to get started on planning city transit routes to YQR in the new year.
James Bogusz had been calling for airport transit earlier this year, and is providing $100,000 per year for the next three years to help city council with the cost of providing a new transit route.
Bogusz said he’s glad city council and administration has taken a leadership role on transit. “We think this is a great opportunity for both the workers both on the airport and surrounding lands, as well as passengers using the terminal building. We are absolutely thrilled.”
Regina city council approved $144,000 in 2020 funding earlier this week as part of the budget. When finalized, the bus routes will run from 6:00am to 9:00am, then again from 4:00pm to 1:00am.
Bogusz said he realizes council is taking a risk by providing a new service that’s never been offered before. “So to help mitigate that risk we have put on the table $300,00 that will be broken up over three years, so $100,000 per year, and in addition we are going to be making the required investments for transit stops on airport property.”
He adds he’s excited to get started, as routes will be finalized and begin in 2020. “We are going to work collectively with staff from the City of Regina to start understanding the routing and timing. It won’t be here for of course this winter season, but we are hopeful that in 2020 we will see this thing kick off and of course promote it to the citizens, the passengers and those who work at the airport and surrounding lands.”
