St. Augustine school holds “Miracle on Edgar Street” donation drive

A Miracle truly took place on Edgar street this year, as St. Augustine school held their annual donation drive Monday.

Support for the donation drive was overwhelming, as gently used winter clothes, as well as toys and other materials were given to the school to be purchased for a heavy discount by less fortunate families.

Principal Candice Chicilo said this provides an opportunity for people to make Christmas shopping easier.

“Children first, and then members of the community we open it up to,” Chicilo said. “They may not be able to purchase presents for everyone in their family, but this way they can get gifts for everyone they desire for a very reduced amount.”

Student support teacher Marlyse Barilla said at first, the school was worried there wouldn’t be enough selection.

“However, the community, through likely (Harvard Broadcasting’s) help, has provided so much in donations that our children are overwhelmingly blessed to be able to provide for their family, and friends, and probably even a little treat for themselves on the way out.”

Students will have first access to the selection Tuesday and Wednesday, and parents will have access Wednesday over the noon hour as well.
