Walmart’s Rochdale Boulevard store still closed one week after fire

The Walmart store on Rochdale Boulevard in northwest Regina is still not open after a fire one week ago, with no timeline as to when the doors might open again.

While there have been a lot of rumors as to when the store will re-open, Walmart Canada says an exact timeline can’t be given, as they are in the midst of doing many things that need to be done to ensure the safety of customers is up to the standards they expect.

In an e-mail from Walmart Canada to 620 CKRM, the company says it is far too early to say when the store will resume business, and that employees affected have been re-assigned to other stores.

Those who have prescriptions that need filling are being told to go to the Gordon Road store.

On December 10, the store had to be emptied after a fire was set where paper towels are sold causing extensive smoke and water damage.

A 12-year-old boy has been charged with arson. That boy, who can’t be named because of his age, is expected to make another appearance in Youth Court this week.

He has been in custody since his initial arrest last week.
