The office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Saskatchewan is investigating a cyberattack on LifeLabs that happened at the end of October.
The company believes 93,000 residents in Saskatchewan had their information accessed.
The investigation will, among other things, examine the scope of the breach, the circumstances leading to it, and what, if any, measures LifeLabs could have taken to prevent and contain the breach. The office will also investigate ways LifeLabs can help ensure the future security of personal information and avoid further attacks.
The Canadian lab services provider had to pay a ransom in order to retrieve the information from the cyber attacker.
