(Jamie) The Toughest Thing About Christmas Shopping? The Parking Lot

Yesterday on my way home from work I pulled behind a vehicle at a red light. When the light turned green the driver in front of me didn’t budge. I Have no idea what he was doing. Apparently, proceeding was on the bottom of his list. I gave him a honk with my horn and he finally made his way through the intersection.

If you want to get behind a driver that appears to be going nowhere fast, head to your local mall or box store.

At this time of year I think I’d rather be driving on Albert St. at 5 o’clock on a Friday afternoon than trying to navigate some of the parking lots around the city. Unless you arrive at whatever store you’re shopping at when it opens in the morning or are extremely lucky, you can kiss a parking spot close to the front door goodbye.

I’ve had more near misses in parking lots trying to shop in the last couple of weeks than I’ve had all year on the city’s busiest roads. I’m surprised I haven’t dislocated my neck from all the shoulder checking. Backing out of a parking spot requires one’s full attention. If it’s not another vehicle trying to find a spot, it’s a shopper walking behind you with a cart full of groceries and Christmas gifts. I can’t believe my luck when I finally make it out of a lot unscathed and make my way on to Lewvan! Thank God for the Lewvan. Finally a chance to relax and catch my breath.

Next year I might just have to include my insurance deductible in my Christmas budget!
