Saskatchewan farmers are worried the price of peas may be affected by new import restrictions imposed on shipments to India.
India is setting a minimum price for imported peas and limiting shipments to only one port in Northeast India.
Lee Moats is an outgoing director with the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers.
He says there could be an impact on the prairies.
Moats says the trade action could reduce exports to India and affect farmgate prices.
He says the trade action points to the need to diversify markets for peas.
India has already placed a 50 percent tariff on pea imports in November, 2017.
Lee Moats farms at Riceton, about 30 miles southeast of Regina and is a past president of the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Association and Pulse Canada.
