The CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association is hoping to see a price boost for the livestock sector in the coming year.
In a year end interview, Ryder Lee is surprised cattle prices have not been boosted higher this fall by strong demand for meat protein from China because of a swine fever outbreak.
Lee is optimistic for 2020.
He says improved beef trade prospects in China and the U.S. should improve profit margins for cattle producers in the coming year.
Swine Fever has decimated the hog industry in China and Lee is hopeful demand for animal protein in Southeast Asia will lead to higher cattle prices in 2020.
He adds approval of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade deal is also good news for Saskatchewan cattle producers.
