City of Regina looking for public input on the future of Saskatchewan Drive

Saskatchewan Drive could soon be getting a face lift, and the City of Regina wants your input on what all gets fixed.

The city is running an online survey this month that asks residents to look at the Sask. Drive corridor between McTavish and Winnipeg streets and provide feedback on what they would like to see in the future.

Spokesperson Shanie Leugner said aging infrastructure is one reason why Sask. Drive is being looked at.

“Saskatchewan Drive has some water mains underneath it that were actually installed in 1913, so that was kind of the driving force for the ‘why now?’” Leugner said. “Because we have some underground infrastructure that we need to look at, it made sense to look at the whole entire corridor at once.”

Leugner said public surveys allow the city to hear from more people on a certain topic.

“We used to do more open-houses, and (we) might get just a small number of representatives coming to share their thoughts, so using public surveys has enabled people to access the opportunity to provide feedback to the city more readily.”

Leugner said everything is on the table, including widening Saskatchewan Drive.

“We do know that as the city grows over time, there will be more traffic using Saskatchewan Drive, so we will be looking at whether or not there’s a need to expand it.”

The survey closes on January 18th.
