“Cold enough for you?” is a question that you’re going to hear at least once a day all this week. Yes, it is cold enough for me. Nobody ever says “no! It’s not cold enough yet. I like -41 and living amongst penguins.”
Saturday I came to the realization that I much prefer more snow if it means less cold. Some may argue this especially if you still have crop out yet, but as I was shoveling my driveway Sunday morning there was little wind, gently falling snow, and it was somewhat mild. The temperature was only -12 at the time and it was a beautiful way to spend a Sunday morning. Sunday’s temperature really took a nose dive as the day progressed, however.
Perhaps it’s an age thing, but the -29 with a -40 windchill is not nearly as fun as it once was and if milder temps means more snow to shovel (or blow), bring on the snow! Have you noticed us Canadian kids never really grow up when it comes to snow? We play in it when we’re kids, sled down the hills, and build forts, and when we get older, out come the snowmobiles and skis! Canadians know how to have fun in the snow…and we know how to complain in the cold!
Over the weekend an article came out noting how cold it was going to be in Edmonton this week. Earlier this morning they were at -26 with a -34 windchill and they have an extreme cold warning in place. In Regina, this morning, we were at -26 with a -36 windchill and NO windchill warning. With the exception of tonight, Regina will be the same if not colder than Edmonton and we don’t get an extreme cold warning! You know it’s cold when you’re sitting inside on the computer trying to find places colder than your home just to feel better! Stay warm this week, eat lots of borscht , and bring on the snow.
