Overcapacity issues at the emergency rooms in both the General and Pasqua Hospitals in Regina have the Saskatchewan Health Authority scrambling.
While the S-H-A says the situation has stablized, it still has the leader of the Saskatchewan NDP concerned.
Leader Ryan Meili, who is a doctor, says long waits in the E-R can make things worse for patient and staff.
“There is a lot more risk of physical assault and verbal abuse.” Meili told reporters at the Legislature Tuesday. ” That is fuelled by the waiting time and the tension that is built up along with the stress. By the time, they are seen the frustration results is much less therapeutic than it should be.”
Meili is wondering where a hallways medicine review that health minister Jim Reiter called for in October is. He says if that review is done, Reiter should release the findings and if it isn’t, he should give an update as what work has been done on the issue.
