SaskPower is looking for volunteers to install a smart meter

SaskPower is looking for volunteers who would like a smart meter installed this year.

The utility is looking for 2,000 residential or commercial customers to install a smart meter as the province moves to a smart grid.

Spokesperson Joel Cherry said the smart meters come with benefits like exact billing instead of estimated costs. “You can get more detailed information about your power use. You can log onto your account and find out information about exactly how much power you are using and when you are using it, and you can use that to find cost saving opportunities and just to reduce your power consumption in general. Another benefit is not having to have a meter reader enter your property.”

“We already have 8,000 commercial smart meters out there working safely and successfully in the province,” said Cherry. “We are looking to put 20,000 more commercial smart meters on businesses and this will be an opportunity for residential customers to take advantage of the benefits of smart meters as well.”

He added that the meters are free to customers.

You can sign up fir one of the meters by clicking here. Cherry said if you sign up and supplies run out, you will be given priority when more meters come in.
