From 40 below to above zero; Saskatchewan’s weather does a dramatic 180

After not wanting to be outside last week because of the extreme cold, it may be hard to keep people indoors this week as warmer air rushes into Saskatchewan producing temperatures well above normal for this time of year.

The normal high for this time of year is minus 11, but some places in the province could be seeing a high of above zero on Tuesday

Environment Canada’s Terri Lang says warmer than normal weather should be with us for the rest of the month.

“We can see out to 10 days with some kinds of confidence that no colder air will be coming back in.” Lang said. “It looks like we will see this for the rest of the month and maybe into the start of February.”

Lang adds that while it isn’t strange to see the weather take a dramatic turn in Saskatchewan in the winter, but it isn’t very often that you see a place have a 40- 50 degree change in the weather in such a short time span.  Late last week with the windchill, the temperature was around minus 45-50 in some places
