The longest running high school basketball tournament in Canada begins Thursday as the 68th annual Luther Invitational Tournament tips off with 16 teams involved–eight on the boys side and eight on the girls side.
Tournament director Troy Casper says the event is one that is special because it is the students that do all the work to make the event the success it is.
“We gave the tournament to the students many years ago and it has enhanced things.” Casper said. “They take great pride in putting on a first-class show which is something everyone appreciates. It’s a great thing to be a part of.”
Ben Hall-Cunningham is going to play in his 3rd LIT with the Lions. He says playing at home in a Regina high school game is OK, but it is nothing compared to the atmosphere when they take the court to play in their first game of the tournament,
“Its awesome. I can’t really describe it,” Hall-Cunningham said. “Every kid at the school comes out to cheer us on and it provides a tremendous atmosphere.”
The final for both the boys and girls goes Saturday night at Luther.
