UPDATE – RCMP say Highway 16 is closed and the community of Guernsey has now been evacuated after another train derailment west of the community.

The junction with Highway 20 is also closed.

One caller to the 620 CKRM newsroom from the Lanigan area says flames can be seen from the distance.

No word on injuries or how many cars left the tracks at this time.

In December, over a million litres of oil was lost after 33 oil tank cars and one hopper car derailed, along Highway 16 between Guernsey and Plunkett.

Guernsey is about 116 km east of Saskatoon.

Thursday’s derailment is said to be about five kilometres from where the one in December occurred.

CP Rail has confirmed it was one of their trains involved in Thursday morning’s derailment.

More to come.
