Riders lose Blake and Bladek to Toronto; make Franklin and Elimimian signing official

The Riders have strengthened themselves at backup quarterback as CFL free agency opened Tuesday morning.

As had been reported earlier by TSN and 3Down Nation, the Riders confirmed James Franklin was heading to Saskatchewan having signed a one-year contract.

The 28-year-old will make Saskatchewan his third stop in what will be his 6th year in the CFL.

He spent the last two years in Toronto throwing for 2,800 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Before that, he spent three years in Edmonton where he threw for 1,449 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The green-and-white also announced they have come to terms with linebacker Solomon Elimimian on a one-year-deal. Elimimian came to Saskatchewan last season after nine years in B.C. He had 88 tackles in 15 games last season and was named a Western Division all-star.

The team also re-signed special teams player Jordan Reaves.

While strengthening themselves at quarterback, the team’s depth on the offensive line has taken a hit as both Phillip Blake and Dariusz Bladek have signed deals with the Argonauts
