Make it two blowout losses in two days for the Regina Pats, who were beaten 8-1 by the Hitmen in Calgary Wednesday night.

The Hitmen started the scoring right of the bat, with the games first goal coming just ten seconds into the first period.

Pats Assistant Coach Brad Herauf said they weren’t there to support their goalies all night long.

“We hung our goalies out to dry, our best players were our worst players, and with the situation we’re in right now we can’t have that,” Herauf said. “When that happens to us, things aren’t good,” he added.

Cole Dubinsky scored the lone goal for the Pats on the powerplay late in the second period.

However Herauf said things had already snowballed out of control before that point.

“You have to feel for goaltenders Danton Belluk and Donovan Buskey, nothing on them. The quality of shots we were giving up and the way we were playing in front of them is just completely unacceptable,” Herauf said.

Two blowout losses in two nights make a recent five game winning streak feel like a life time ago.

Herauf said they’re not handling adversity like they did during that streak.

“I think the biggest thing that we’ve changed is that we haven’t been handling the adversity as well, and that’s one thing that we’ve really grown from, when situations like this arose I really liked the way we acted in the last little while up until a couple nights ago,” he said.

The Pats (18-28-3-2) will wrap up their three game trip in Edmonton Friday night against the Oil Kings (35-8-6-3) at 8:00 p.m. on 620 CKRM.
