Yesterday morning after work I rushed out east for a dentist appointment. My dentist found a couple of small cavities during an x-ray before we took our vacation to Cuba, so I thought I might as well get them taken care of right away.
As a kid I just hated going to the dentist. Dr. Matkin was our family dentist and he wasn’t the friendliest man I’ve ever met. He even looked mean. I still remember him bearing down on me with one of those big silver needles that they used back then. I think the only time I saw him smile was when he was jabbing that needle into my gums. Then he’d start drilling before the freezing took effect. I remember him telling me the pain was all in my mind. He was all heart, this guy.
Fortunately, dentistry has come a long way since then. My dentist gives a local anesthetic to numb your gums so you don’t even feel the needle. That’s my kind of dentist.
I’ve been seeing Bill Moyer for more than 20 years now. Great dentist with a wonderful personality. If I would have had a guy like that working on my teeth back when I was a kid I wouldn’t have minded my trips to the dentist.
Yesterday I was in and out of the chair in less than an hour! Didn’t feel a thing. When I was done I told him, “Thanks Bill, you might have set some kind of a record today. Less than an hour! Good job.” He told me he knows how impatient I am, so he wanted to get things done quickly. It’s like he’s known me my whole life!
If you look up Bill Moyer in the dictionary it will say, “The exact opposite of Dr. Matkin.”
Thank God for that!
