Assiniboia RCMP are advising the general public that there has an increase in the number of phone scams in the area.

Many of the scammers are trying to get personal information including banking information, birth dates, and SIN Numbers.

Police are recommending that people be very cautious when releasing their personal information over the phone especially if the person on the other end identifies themselves as employees of banks or credit cards companies, the Canadian Revenue or lottery agencies.

Online and computer virus scams are also very common.

Anyone with information related to these scams are asked to call the RCMP at 310-RCMP.
