Car Wash Woes

Yesterday was such a beautiful day and I decided it was time to finally wash my truck, which hasn’t been washed since Christmas. Normally I don’t get to concerned about a dirty vehicle, but this time it was especially bad thanks to all the street sand/salt this winter. I always park my truck on the side of a street when I’m at work and the passing vehicle, buses, and big trucks tend to splash melted snow and loose salt/sand onto the side of my truck. My once blue truck was more of a white, sloppy mess.

I’ve always been more of a fan of the wand car wash bays because I think I do a better job than any machine. Emphasis on the word “think.” I have a usual car wash that I normally go to because it’s close to my home, but it seems to me that the wash cycles are getting shorter and shorter every time I go. I refuse to accept I’m getting slower, of course. It’s got to be the wash cycle! I don’t typically spend a ton of money on a wash, usually $3, which gets a person a rinse, a foam brush, and another rinse. That’s usually good enough to get the dirt and grime off the side of my truck. Yesterday, however was not my finest trip to the car wash.

Not only did I not get the truck fully rinsed the first time around, I got the foam brush hose hooked around something on my truck and lost valuable time brushing the thing down! It was a race against time and my truck wasn’t getting any cleaner. Just as I got the hose untangled and on my way, the cycle stopped, however I brushed and brushed until there was no soap left on those soft bristles! Got to get my money’s worth you know. Next came the final rinse off and again I lost valuable time with a hose tangle, coupled with the roof top hose swing device not swinging when it needed to. Again, I lost valuable time and my rinse cycle came to an end too quickly.

There I was, no more loonies left and a truck still partially covered in foam. As I pulled out of the car wash the neighboring car owner looks at me and says “you know you still have a lot of soap on your truck?” I nodded in agreement and said I didn’t move quickly enough. So, if you saw a truck cruising up Albert Street last night around 6:30 covered in soap, that was just me attempting to blow off the remaining soap/foam. Next time, I’ll go to the gym and train before the next car wash trip.
