Former Sask. teacher charged with sexual assault released on bail

Gerard Loehr, a former teacher charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and interference, was released on $5,000 bail at Wynyard Provincial Court on Monday.

The charges Loehr is facing come from his time as a teacher in the province in the 1990’s.

Earlier this month, Wynyard RCMP received a report from a woman who said she had been sexually assaulted in the past. Since that initial report, five other women have reported incidents involving the same man.

Loehr from Ottawa was charged with five counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual interference.

The victims were allegedly assaulted by Loehr while he was teacher in Wynyard and Foam Lake between 1990 and 1996.

Police don’t have information in regards what schools Loehr has taught at since, although was most recently teaching music in Ottawa. He may have taught other subjects while he was in Saskatchewan.

Loehr left Saskatchewan in 1996 and continued teaching in Ontario after 2000.

The RCMP made the arrest in partnership with the Ottawa Police Service on February 17th.

Loehr is set to appear in court on March 5th in Wadena.
