Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher will play in the Tim Hortons Brier for a third straight year. He will play either Regina’s Matt Dunstone or Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue in that final.
On Saturday afternoon, Bottcher advanced to the final as he won the 1 vs 2 game by a score of 9-4 over Dunstone and his squad from the Highland club consisting of Braeden Moskowy, Catlin Schneider and Dustin Kidby.
“They played great and I had a couple of stinkers out there, that was the difference,” Dunstone said. “We gave up two really cheap steals and one was a three-point swing. You have a shot for two you have to make it to beat a team like that.”
Gushue defeated Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs in the 3 vs 4 game by a score of 6-4. Jacobs was curling his third game of the day as he had to beat Kevin Koe and John Epping in what had been a four-team tiebreaker before battling Gushue.
The Saskatchewan-Newfoundland game will start at 10 AM with the final happening at 5.
The winner moves on to the World Championship in Scotland representing Canada and will come back as Team Canada at the 2021 Brier in Kelowna.
