The community of Plunkett will continue fundraising efforts for a reverse osmosis system with an event on Friday.

The village of around 40 households and 60 residents has been under a boil water advisory full-time for almost three years and on and off advisories for about five years.

Lyle Phillips is on village council and has assisted in applying for government funding for water treatment equipment since 2014, all of which have been denied.

“Our water source is ground water, and we have elevated pneumonia and the filter system is just not working,” Phillips said. “We can’t add enough chlorine to maintain good quality.”

Plunkett resident Della Dukart said being under a water advisory for a majority of the time she has lived there is a major concern.

“How do you do laundry? How do you shower? How do you do anything?” Dukart said. “My thoughts go out to the people that want to bath babies or children, it’s just not safe.”

Dukart is also on the fundraising committee that will host an Irish stew supper Friday night at the Plunkett Community Centre.
