Fougere says he respectfully disagrees with provinces’s stance on state of emergency

After declaring its own state of emergency on Friday, the province told the city of Regina on the weekend that the state of emergency they declared last week takes precedence meaning some of the measures enacted by the city aren’t happening.
Speaking at City Hall Monday morning, Mayor Michael Fougere says that decision is one that he understands, but is still disappointed in.
“We felt what we did reflected the community’s view, but we also  know that frankly the province can do this very thing.” Fougere said. “I’ve expressed my disappointment and I am urging them to make more regulations and tighten things up.  Do it now and don’t wait.”
The city’s declaration had limited gatherings to a maximum of five people and that all retail locations not deemed essential would have to close their doors indefinitely. The province does not agree with that and says gatherings are limited to 25 people.
On Sunday, Government Relations Minister Lori Carr said she did understand what Regina had done and that she respected that, but the government has said it is of utmost importance that uniformity is maintained across the province to reduce confusion that people may have.”
