Regina taxi driver assaulted by passenger who didn’t pay cab fare

The Regina Police Service is investigating an incident over the weekend when a taxi driver was seriously injured after he was assaulted with a weapon.

On Saturday night, the taxi driver drove a passenger to the 1800 block of Atkinson Street, and upon arrival, it is believed that the passenger fled from the vehicle without paying the cab fare.

When the driver exited the vehicle to seek payment, the suspect assaulted him with an unknown object outside the vehicle.

Police were dispatched to Atkinson Street at around 8:48 a.m. where they found the man in serious condition. He was transported to hospital by EMS.

The RPS K9 unit established a track in the area but were unable to find the suspect.
