Regina Pats will pick 1st overall in 2020 WHL Bantam Draft

The Regina Pats have the first overall pick in the WHL Bantam Draft this year.

The WHL draft lottery was held Wednesday morning from Calgary. The Prince George Cougars, who were positioned in fourth, saw their ball fall first in the lottery, but can only move up two positions, allowing the Pats to receive the first pick.

The Pats had the Swift Current Broncos first round pick after acquiring it from Lethbridge in a trade last season.

A list of the first six picks include:

1st: Regina Pats (via Swift Current, via Lethbridge)

2nd: Prince George Cougars

3rd: Moose Jaw Warriors

4th: Tri-City Americans

5th: Saskatoon Blades (via Regina Pats)

6th: Red Deer Rebels

It is anticipated that the Pats will select 14 year-old Connor Bedard from North Vancouver, BC, who is the first player to be granted exceptional player status in WHL history.

Bedard had 43 goals and 41 assists in 36 games this season with the West Van Academy Prep program.

Beyond the first round, the Pats also have two picks in the second round, and three picks in the third round.

The last time the Pats had the first overall selection was 2005, when they selected defenceman Colten Teubert.
