Teachers and staff in Saskatchewan are set to resume work on Monday either from home or at their office while following advice from public health regarding COVID-19 protocols.
Educators will begin reaching out to students and families regarding learning opportunities while on a remote basis. Teachers will determine the best routes to provide distance learning for students who are able to participate.
Assistant Deputy Minister of Education Clint Repski said the ministry’s framework for this program will be able to support families with resources so students can continue learning while schools remain closed.
“We’re trying to emphasize the multiple modes of delivering instruction and this includes everything from paper to phone calls. Schools and staff are in the best position to determine those pieces,” explained Repski.
“We have 27 unique school divisions across the province. They know their families and students better than anybody and will be in a position to adapt their learning on a go-forward basis to best accommodate their families.”
In terms of resourcing, Repski said the operating grant that has been given to schools divisions will continue to be provided.
He said school divisions will be connecting with families on an ongoing basis to make sure they are getting the right education.
“The province rolled out the framework that school divisions are going to be operating within and they will begin developing their implementation strategies. It’s going to look different across the province.”
Schools in the province have been closed since March 20 due to COVID-19.
