Construction on Regina’s new Maple Leaf Pool will get underway this week.
The city discussed the latest concerning the project on Monday afternoon from city hall. Administration says the decision to go forward with construction was done with “careful consideration.”
“Contractors all have their own pandemic response plans in place, their own construction practices in place and they will be respecting that same distancing at their sites as we would ourselves,” stated Chris Holden, city manager for Regina.
In a release on Monday, the city shared that additional safety measures and site monitoring will be in place to ensure there is a safe work environment during the project. This includes appropriate physical distancing between workers on site, adherence to handwashing protocols and additional cleaning of shared surfaces and personal protective equipment.
The $5.3 million project was approved by city council in 2018. The former pool was demolished last July.
