Federal government continues to ‘prepare for the worst’ when it comes to COVID-19

Justin Trudeau says the entire world was unprepared regarding personal protective equipment to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his daily coronavirus update in Ottawa, the prime minister was asked when the government saw the virus expand in China why they didn’t secure extra medical supplies then.

“We have worked extremely hard to step up; both in our procurement of PPE’s, but mostly on increasing the Canadian production of personal protective equipment and materials like ventilators and testing kits.”

Trudeau was also asked if a shipment from 3M was a one-off.

“We’ve had constructive and productive conversations that have assured that this particular shipment comes through, but we recognize there’s still more work to do.”

Trudeau also offered his wishes for a speedy recovery to his British counterpart Boris Johnson, who was transferred to an intensive care unit in a hospital in London Monday.
