Canadian beef industry trying to adapt to consumer demand during pandemic

The beef industry is trying to get a handle on changing consumer demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rather than eating at restaurants and fast food places, more Canadians are stocking up their deep freezes with various cuts, as well as ground beef.
Canada Beef president Michael Young says the coronavirus has had a major impact on demand for certain cuts of beef.
“Beef demand at retail is up significantly, 50-75 percent,” said Young. “Consumers have aggressively stocked up on groceries and supplies for home. Unfortunately, the food service and hospitality sector has been hit the hardest with reports from 50-90 percent decreases in demand, depending on the category.”
Young says the strongest demand is for ground beef.
He adds it will be very critical to provide both supply and assortment to consumers.
Consumers have turned to the internet to track down new recipes,  as they search for additional cooking information.
