Saskatchewan campgrounds and parks looking forward to opening as part of Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan

With the provincial government’s announcement Thursday, that parks and campgrounds will be part of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, people from the province will be able to go camping as early as June 1st.

Provincial parks will only open half of their usual sites to allow for proper social distancing. The plan also allows from golf courses and boat launches to open with restrictions.

Minister of parks culture and sport Gene Makowsky said there will be a cautious approach taken to opening the parks.

“I urge those who might be interested in camping to look ahead as to what will be available, at least initially, starting June 1st.”

Makowsky said pre-booking can begin May 4th.

“We have a few each day that will be available, and so that will be part of the roll-out here,” Makowsky said. “We encourage, if you haven’t already registered, to do that early.”

Makowsky said he is unsure of what interprovincial and national parks will be doing at this time.

“There’s regional parks, and municipal parks as well, so we expect all the different levels to have guidelines,” Makowksy said. “Those other parks (will need to) comply with the guidelines we have.”

Only Saskatchewan residents will be allowed in the parks. Makowsky says he’s unsure of how that will be enforced, but some options they are looking at is making people enter a home address when booking a camp site online or asking for I.D. at the gate.
