Neville Gallimore was the number one player on the final CFL Scouting rankings. And the Roughriders got him in the draft for a bargain price.
The Riders took the superstar defensive tackle in the 8th round of Thursday’s draft. That comes a week after he was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd round of the NFL draft. Being picked that high in the NFL draft likely ensures him at least a few years down south.
“At that part of the draft, the conversation that I was about how many guys we had left that we had as draft-able and what are the chances of them making our team,” says O’Day. “And did it excede the value of taking a guy that could really be a home run if he ever comes back to the CFL? So it was more of a risk/reward pick.”
Gallimore may never come back to Canada to play. But if he does, it will be in Saskatchewan.
