The Canadian Federation of Agriculture seeks $2.6 billion in federal farm aid

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture has asked Ottawa for an emergency farm aid program of 2.6 billion dollars during the covid-19 pandemic.

The C.F.A. says the funding will help maintain food security in Canada during the coronavirus outbreak.

The emergency fund is required due to the shut-down of the food service sector, processing plant closures and other supply chain disruptions and increases in labour and other costs.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture says the emergency funding is for impacts which are not eligible under any of the current government programs and more will be needed.

The CFA says food is essential and farmers need support to ensure crops get planted this spring.
