Colin Lovequist is on the road today as part of our Virtual Country Cookouts, so that means I (Cody) will have today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1!
Coming up on the show today:
Merle Haggard scored his 17th number one on this day in 1974 with “Things Aren’t Funny Anymore.” It would stay at the top of the chart for one week.
Joe Stampley was at number 1 this week back in 1975 with a song dedicated to the truckers of North America. 620 CKRM thanks all the truckers and delivery men and women for their hard work in this pandemic. “Roll on Big Mama” would become his second number 1.
Alabama landed their 16th consecutive number 1 on May 4th, 1985 with “There’s No Way.” The ballad stayed at number 1 for one 35 years ago.
14 years ago this month Ricky Van Shelton announced he was retiring from the music business to spend more time with his family. He was staple on country radio in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. He landed his 8th number one on this day in 1991 with Dolly Parton on “Rockin’ Years.”
Paul Brandt started his second week at number one with “My Heart Has a History.”
We have a country music birthday to celebrate today. The legendary Randy Travis turns 61 today.
We’ll have these hits and more starting at 1:00 this afternoon. I hope you’ll join us!
