A 24-year-old man from Regina is facing impaired driving and dangerous driving charges following an incident on Sunday morning.
The Regina Police Service says a canine officer initially observed a GMC Envoy being driven in a dangerous manner early on May 3. When a second police officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the Envoy evaded police.
The driver, 24-year-old Dylan Jake Smith, eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was found by the RPS canine unit in a yard on the 4700 block of 2nd Avenue North.
Officers noticed he was showing signs of impairment and was taken to hospital after picking up injuries when the police dog came into contact with Smith.
Police also say he allegedly gave a false name before his identity was later confirmed. That’s when it was discovered Smith had outstanding warrants and had new breach changes pending.
He faces a number of charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer. He made his first court appearance on May 4.
