Residential street sweeping to begin Monday

After completing sweeping the city’s arterial streets, City of Regina crews will be shifting to residential streets starting Monday.

Chris Warren, Director of Roadways & Transportation, says that the city decided to proceed with the street sweeping program through the pandemic because it makes the streets safer.

“The benefits realized through this program are enhanced traction control and safety for vehicles and cyclists, improved drainage during rainfalls by reducing the amount of debris that can block storm drains,” said Warren. “And the general beautification and tidying of the streetscapes in our neighbourhoods.”

Warren says that despite the city not enforcing no parking signs, the first part of the street sweeping program went relatively well.

He adds that he is hoping the public continue to cooperate when crews are sweeping residential streets.

“We are asking for residents’ cooperation and assistance to ensure a successful sweep in your neighbourhood, and please visit Regina.ca to find out when your neighbourhood is scheduled to be swept,” said Warren. “You can also ensure your vehicle is parked, or moved, off the street on your scheduled date. If possible, offer to share your driveway with a neighbour.”

Crews will be sweeping Monday to Friday in two shifts, 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Street sweepers create dusty conditions that reduce visibility. Close your windows and walk on alternative sidewalks. If you see dust and sweeping equipment, give them lots of room, slow down and be safe.
