Premier says house leaders are meeting to talk about MLA’s heading back to work

NDP leader Ryan Meili sent a letter to Premier Moe Monday saying it was time to respect our democratic traditions and reconvene the Legislature immediately.

It was a move that Moe said “caught him by surprise” as house leaders have already been in discussions to get MLA’s back to work.

Speaking Monday at the government’s daily briefing, Moe said Meili should be aware of these discussions.

“I would be surprised if he wasn’t aware that that work was going on.” Moe said. “I was quite surprised to see what was a very public letter asking for the resumption of full legislative services when it is work that is already occurring.”

Meili says there are questions the government needs to be held accountable on when it comes to things like a budget and the money being spent on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moe says he will respond to Meili’s letter, but he would not elaborate on details when asked.

The spring session of the Legislature was suspended on March 18.  That was the  same day Moe declared a state of emergency in Saskatchewan.
