Four new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan ; 11 more recoveries

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, the provincial government confirmed Wednesday. The province’s total now stands at 577.

All of the new cases are from the La Loche area. One case that was previously reported from Regina has been reassigned to the north.

Of the 577 reported cases, only 186 are considered active.  Eleven more people have recovered, boosting that total to 385.

There are currently 10 people in the hospital, including three in intensive care in Saskatoon.

There have been 38,157 COVID-19 tests performed in the province so far.

The province has also extended the state of emergency for another two weeks.

Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab said that there are two stories going on in the province, and both are positive.

The first one is that there are officialy no active cases of COVID-19 in the southern part of the province.
He says that despite there being no active cases, we still need to be careful out in public.
“We need to continue, as we go out and about, and enjoy the outdoors, enjoy the warm weather, enjoy the long weekend, we need to continue to have that diligence to maintain physical distancing between members who are not part of our household, or our virtual household,” said Shahab. “As long as we can do that, we can continue to reopen other sectors of the economy and stay the course.”
Shahab said the other positive is signs that the outbreak in the far north is being contained.
