SaskPower warning of prepaid credit card scam targeting businesses

SaskPower is warning about a scam targeting businesses.

The Crown Corporation says that the scam involves someone who claims to be SaskPower, calling businesses and asking them to use either prepaid credit cards or gift cards in order to pay their outstanding balances.

According to SaskPower, two businesses lost more than $1,000 each to fraud.

SaskPower states that they will never ask for payment through prepaid credit cards, and they urge people to ask anyone contacting them to verify that they are from SaskPower.

They add that if the person says bills need to be paid within an hour to avoid being disconnected, it’s most likely a scammer.

Anyone with concerns about a call should hang up their phone and call SaskPower directly at 1-888-757-6937
