After an eight-year career in the CFL, Sam Hurl said Wednesday it is time to hang up the helmet.
The 30-year-old. who split his time in the league with the Riders and Bombers after being taken by Saskatchewan in the 2nd round of the 2012 draft with the 12th overall pick, says he is retiring with the time coming to start a new career in the real estate field.
“I always said to myself if I could land a job in a reasonable time frame that I would hang up my cleats and start working on something else.” Hurl told 620 CKRM’s Michael Ball on his “Growing the Game” podcast. “It’s become that time and now that I’ve had this job for a couple of months and I’ve settled in a little bit, I can say to myself more comfortably that I’m going to retire.”
In 117 career games, the Calgary product had 206 tackles, 60 special teams tackles, eight sacks, three forced fumbles and three interceptions. He was a member of the 2013 Grey Cup winning Riders squad.
