Regina police arrest man carrying a semi-auto rifle following assault

A 21-year-old man from Regina made his first court appearance on Monday morning after an assault where he was found carrying a rifle.

Regina police were called out on Saturday at 10:45 p.m. to a report of an assault on the 2000 block of Wallace Street. Officers had learned the suspect from the assault was carrying a gun.

Police located a man who fit the suspect description in the report walking on 15th Avenue, a few blocks from where the assault allegedly happened. The Regina Police Service shared in a news release that officers saw a semi-automatic rifle tucked into the waistband of the man’s pants when they ordered him to put his hands in the air. He was arrested without incident.

Officers also found he was in possession of drugs. RPS say the investigation did not reveal enough evidence to charge him in connection with the assault.

21-year-old Zachary Isaiha Acoose faces a number of charges including possession of a weapon, careless use of a firearm and possession of a substance.
