Canada West made it official Monday by announcing its fall sports schedule has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It means men’s football won’t be played this year with soccer, rugby and cross-country also being affected.
The Atlantic University Sport and Ontario University Athletics conferences made the same declaration on Monday with USPORTS also cancelling all first-term national championships
Canada West member schools came to this recommendation after extensive work from a COVID-19 task force that included CW board members as well as medical professionals.
As for sports like basketball, hockey and volleyball, Canada West is hoping to get a shortened season in that would start in January. A decision on that is to be made no later than the conference’s fall meeting on October 8.
