Trudeau says police across Canada may soon be using body cameras.

Trudeau says he spoke with cabinet Friday about adopting them after reports of Indigenous Canadians being assaulted during their arrests.

“Minister (Bill) Blair has also reaffirmed to me his commitment to improving Indigenous policing, and later (Monday), I have a stock-take on reconciliation to discuss our work with Indigenous communities,” Trudeau said. “I am committing to you that this work will continue to accelerate the pace of change.”

Trudeau’s attendance at a Black Lives Matter rally in Ottawa was brought up during the COVID-19 briefing.

The Prime Minister was asked if he’s setting a double standard by attending the rally, while at the same time urging Canadians to follow public health guidelines on issues like social distancing.

“In regards to the rallies, it was important for me to attend,” Trudeau said. “I think to look out the windows of my office and see thousands upon thousands of young people, Canadians of all ages, stand in solidarity to wan ting to see change happen, I thought it was important.”

In Regina, a protest against racism was held on Sunday afternoon.
